WOODY
ALLEN and TORI AMOS
WOODY ALLEN
Tradition is the illusion of permanence.
You're betting everything on physics and
pussy.
So we're alone in the universe. You gonna
blame that on me too?
Life is like Vegas. You're up, you're down,
and in the end, the house always wins. But
it doesn't mean you didn't have fun.
I don't wanna live in a city where the
only cultural advantage is that you can
make a right turn on a red light.
TORI AMOS
I mean as far as the structure of a tune,
there are two things that have to be operating
at all times. One is complete instinctive
writing, and then the other is the sculptor.
Now the sculptor is the one that goes, Ok,
so we kinda have a verse here, but this
line has to be gutted because it isn't saying
what we need it to say. And then another
part of you goes, yeah but this came to
me, and I was having an experience, and
I was eating a banana when I was walking
down this dirt road, and it just really,
really worked for me. And you're going,
yeah, but honey, it sucks.
When I am in geometrically sound shoes,
I feel like I'm part of the physics chatter.
I have to be willing to open the closet
and be willing to bring out all my little
party hats.
Oh, I laugh my head off when some woman
calls me a shivering waif in the forest.
I'm like OK, sister, you get raped and get
ready to get cut up, and then write about
it and sing it. And you have the balls to
call me a waif shivering in the forest.
That to me is a lizard running around with
a pussy.
My God, you guys, she's 21. Let her fit
into tight pants. Let her explore and grow.
I did. What is this you're not allowed to
explore? Look at me now. I'm breast feeding
pigs.
When you come to my shows, you think you're
walking into this really yummy lunch, and
little do you know you ARE lunch.
When things get really empty for me, empty
in my outer life, in my inner life, the
music world, the songs come across galaxies
to find me.
